Northern Baptist session revises constitution with open church policy
The Northern Association of Baptist Churches met June 2–3 at Rye Hill Chapel Newcastle with Rev W R Skerry as moderator. The draft constitution prompted debate over baptism and communion rules, ending with a majority vote to admit evangelical churches meeting core Baptist criteria, keeping open membership for those not demanding believer baptism as a prerequisite. A moderator and vice moderator will be elected in future, and reports show net church gains and a strong home mission focus. The session closed with a large Home Mission Meeting led by Alderman Strachan and featured speakers on Baptist relations, evangelisation, and local work.
