Grumbles Library Set to Open in Newtown June 5
Dedication ceremonies mark the Gay Grumbles Living Library in Newtown at 7 30 p m on June 5. The library, named for a visiting teacher s aide, will offer book lending and tutoring for elementary students during school breaks with high school tutors available on Mondays and Wednesdays. Volunteering orientation is June 11 and regular sessions begin June 13. The facility shares a building with the Nearly New Shop on Debolt Street and aims to match shop hours 10 a m to 3 p m Monday through Friday.

Mother of the Year honors Marsha Murray in Newtown
Marsha Murray of Newtown learns she is the Mother of the Year after a surprise nomination from a neighborhood child. WKRC-TV sponsored the contest and eight unsigned letters from local children brought the honor, with eight year old Eddie Beson later admitting to authorship.

Dorsey and Skeen will appear on the November ballot to retain their Anderson Township posts as Republican officials announce their candidacies. Dorsey, UC Ohio College of Applied Science dean, previously defeated Donald Papner and Pam Cotton in 1975 with 43 percent. Anderson High School sophomore Pam Huesman won the Ohio State Baton Twirling Championship and serves as a leading majorette for the Redskin Marching Band. Hanna Dry Cleaners Fire Causes Minor Damage
Smoke issued from Hanna Dry Cleaners at 2111 Beechmont Ave in the Mt. Washington district leading to $2,500 damage to a fume sniffer. George Willer, the plant’s general manager, said it was the first fire at his three plants in Mariemont and downtown. Fire engines and a fire marshal responded around 10 a.m.

Cincinnati Bell plans May 20 transfer of about 1,100 telephone lines from Mt. Washington to Cherry Grove Switching Center to ease near capacity at Mt. Washington. Affected customers 231 and 232 will receive numbers starting with 474. new numbers appear in late May directory and callers dialing old numbers will be connected to new numbers by an operator at no charge.
