Cleanup continues as Ohio recedes after the swollen Ohio and Little Miami rivers breached flood levels. Crests reached about 58.6 feet in Cincinnati and 57 feet at New Richmond, with shelters serving dozens and Red Cross moving to close its New Richmond service center by Monday.

Anderson High School suffers first knife incident in memory

A 15-year-old student was slashed on the left hand near Anderson High School as two bus riders waited for buses after classes. Deputy Rick Taylor arrested a freshman on felonious assault charges, and the injured sophomore, Bruce Tagge, required surgery and remained in treatment while the school planned a hearing for the assailant.

Anderson High’s Dave Wilson Sets Swim Records in Ohio

Anderson High School senior Dave Wilson shattered national marks at the Ohio State finals in Canton. He clocked 48.50 to break Mark Spitz’s 49.1 national record in the 100 butterfly, while winning the state title in backstroke with 51.14 and placing high in the butterfly at 49.051. Wilson helped Anderson finish sixth as a team with 57 points, and the 200-yard medley relay finished sixth at 1:40.66.

Newtown signs sewer contract for flood relief

Newtown Village signed a contract with KZF design firm to prepare and administer construction of storm sewers to drain central town. The project area includes Plum Centre and part of Main Streets, flooding after heavy rain. A federal Community Development grant of 290000, plus 90000 already obtained, funds the effort.
