The Ohio Historical Society announces a Newspaper Project located near I-71 and 17th Avenue in Columbus. The project preserves archival papers and promotes local history research through digitization and public access.
The story notes that three weeks before filing deadline only one Forest Hills Board of Education incumbent plans to seek re election. Jerry Alan Denges filed for a full term after Red Sander resigns. Five men including Denges have picked up petitions at the Hamilton County Board of Elections. Other incumbents and candidates named include Jerry Hatfield Loyd Crawley Frank Osborne Albert Otten David Downs Lance S Cox and Rome Hughes. Additional local races in Anderson Township Newtown and other boards are mentioned with filing deadlines and candidates.
Hamilton County police report a string of vandalism and arson in Anderson Township since early July. Col. Dan Wolfangel says teens or young adults are likely responsible, with three 17 year old suspects identified in a July 10 fire. Several businesses and a vacant house burned or were damaged, prompting calls for parental oversight and increased patrols.
William H. Quinn, area insurance executive, declares candidacy for 1973 74 governor elect of the Ohio District Kiwanis International. If elected at the 56th annual convention at the Netherland Hilton Hotel August 4 8, he would lead Ohio's 18 000 Kiwanians in 1974 75. State officers take office in October. Quinn has 17 years of Kiwanis involvement and previously served as lieutenant governor of the 8th district in 1967. He is secretary treasure r of the Southwestern Ohio Kiwanis Mental Health Assn the past three years.
The Forest Hills Journal announces its weekly publication schedule dated July 18 1973 and lists the Cincinnati Ohio address 7826 Beechmont Avenue for distribution and mailing. The notice notes controlled circulation and postage paid status in Cincinnati Ohio.
Forest Hills Board of Education expected to approve Robert Galvin as Anderson High School assistant principal. He comes from Hughes High and has administration experience since 1965. The board also considered staff changes, construction reports for Ayers Elementary and Turpin Middle, and hiring decisions for Anderson Middle and High School home economics and math positions.
Supt Robert Wolf says Forest Hills Board will reassess hiring outside attorneys when the current one year contract with Smith Latimer and Swing ends. Robert F Reed of the firm has provided on call legal expertise and the district previously considered a county wide attorney for governmental bodies. The Hamilton County Board of Education recently hired Arinoff Rosen and Lerner on a year long retainer for legal advisory services to the county school system.
