Hamilton County's Woodland Mound Park opens with an 8 p.m dedication and concert conducted by Carmen DeLeone. A staffer notes the park district marks its golden anniversary on July 17 as residents gather for a celebration and music spanning the last 50 years.
Two Hamilton County Sheriff's deputies were involved in an auto accident at Clough and Wolfangle Roads in Anderson Township. Park officials outline Woodland’s opening with 900 acres of trails, picnic areas, shelters, restrooms, and a river-view observation tower. Access improvements via the 275 bridge are noted as easing arrival, with facilities including a museum, visitors center, concession, two big ball fields, and a possible 18-hole golf course to be considered next year depending on the economy. Admission is $1 per car or $3 for a season pass. The park will also host the Withrow Nature Preserve on Old Five Mile next year offering nature programs and day camps.
