A group of merchants formed a Beechmont Avenue business association amid 40 to 45 attendees last Thursday. Jeff Figgatt, cochairman, said the committee aims to act in its own interest and improve signage traffic and competition. officers will be elected at the September meeting.

Coney Island Park now known as Old Coney embraces summer activity. Ed McHale, general manager, says retained nostalgia motivates the rebranding. New California-style roller skating at $2 per hour, noiseless rental skates, and a Memory film of the 1940s shown Saturdays and Sundays. Seven Saturday Moonlight Pavilion concerts begin July 12. July 4 fireworks to cost $5,000 for a single spectacular show, with a full park picnic atmosphere planned.

An Anderson Township Marine Maj Kermit H Shelly 37 shot his wife Patricia 31 during a domestic dispute in a car parked on State Road in front of the Anderson Branch Library near the Five Mile Connector at 7:40 am. Both were pronounced dead at Cincinnati General Hospital. a seven year old daughter survived. The weapon was a .45 caliber government issue pistol. Shelly had served since 1966 and was commissioned in 1967. authorities suggested the incident stemmed from quarrel.

Recount Confirms Park District Levy Defeated by 25 Votes

A Friday recount of the June 3 Park District levy vote shows the levy lost by 25 votes. Votes against remained 3,252 while in favor adjusted from 3,228 to 3,227. Recount, granted at no cost due to the narrow margin, began about 9:30 am and ended by 10 am. Park board plans to place the levy on the November ballot with a public campaign. Park board member Thomas Gaier attended the recount.

Mt. Washington Man Charged Over Untaxed Liquor

Mt. Washington resident Jack J. Kelly Jr. faced charges of illegal possession and transportation of untaxed liquor. Kelly, 40, of 2534 Ranchdale Rd., was arrested on December 20, 1979, with sentencing postponed to July 15. Authorities noted a $5,000 delivery van and $10,000 worth of Kentucky sold liquor tied to the case.
