Blaine on remonetizing silver cited with misquotation
The article rebuts silver advocates who used Blaine’s Senate speech of February 7 1878 to push free coinage. It notes they printed only the opening sentences and misrepresented his cautions against remonetizing silver and the broader causes for silver’s price decline. It quotes Blaine’s warnings about profit from coinage and the government’s unfair advantage to bullion owners.
