Public Library House System Proves Popular in City

The weekly house system of library book delivery started in spring shows strong uptake with 150 participants. Over half had never used the city library before. Plans to renew the agreement in fall and expand district wide depend on continued popularity. Delivery options cost 50 cents for six weeks, $1 for twelve, or $3 for thirty eight weeks, cheaper than weekly streetcar fare. The service targets households, not individuals, and limits card eligibility to one per family.

Brown's New Compound Promises Major Material Revolution

L A Brown of St Louis claims a cheap, durable building material made from river sand cement sulfur and pigment. He says it can mold on site into houses and pipes with one handling, rival iron marble wood and terra cotta, and could be acid proof water proof and heat insulating. Professors and students note its resemblance to ancient molded stones and foresee broad industrial use.
