Clever Female Swindler Poses as Banker’s Daughter in New York
A well dressed young woman, blue eyed and blond, travels in a swell carriage claiming to be Henry Clews’s daughter and uses college talk to swindle shopkeepers. She orders costly items to be delivered to 9 West Thirty Fourth Street, then has smaller goods charged to the account. Detectives link her to last year’s Miss Doe swindle and a former alias, aiming to defraud merchants with elaborate ruses.
