Ration of Halloween Dinner a Newton Social Highlight
A five course progressive dinner by the Entre Nous club pleases guests as the finest social event in Newton. Courses served across five homes featured decor, attentive service, and a concluding music reception with the Mandolin Club. Guests included J.T. Pound, Robi Miller, F. Kennedy, and others. The Sunflower Club Hosts The Long Lost Nephew
The New Women formed the Sunflower Club and held a Saturday evening entertainment at Miss Ella Clarkson's home. Admission was restricted to the maidens and matrons as the motto suggests. A farce titled The Long Lost Nephew was perform ed with charm and humor, and Henry Held’s three little daughters sang Beautiful Gates Ajar to delight attendees.

Hallowe'en Party at X P Hall by Delta Lodge K of P
Delta Lodge K of P hosted a Hallowe en party at X P Hall Wednesday as the first winter event. Nearly two hundred members and guests enjoyed a banquet in Tennant's cafe and haunted Castle Hall with games, cards, fortune telling, apple bobbing, and a variety of entertainments. Prof Van Haverskerke played violin selections along with Miss Cath Parmenter, and Mr Hal Wilson delivered a solo encore.

A large number of enjoyable pare ties occurred in Newton over the past weeks but none exceeded for attendance. Carrie Allen hosted a Hallowe en taffy pulling party for twenty or more friends last evening. Crokinole pers chessi archirena and other games provided prep for the fun of pulling taffy. Fruit, nuts, popcorn and edibles filled the menu as a merry time lasted until near midnight.

Prairie City Hears Safe Young Campaign Speech
In Prairie City on Wednesday evening Hon Lafayette Young editor of the Des Moines Capital delivered an extended political address. He outlined tariff and silver issues plus the mule tax and criticized pension cuts for old soldiers. The speaker rallied Republicans while denouncing Democrats, marking Jasper county's third campaign meeting.

True Fraternal Aid By Odd Fellows and Modern Woodmen
Newton area fraternal orders Odd Fellows and Modern Woodmen gathered to help Asher Dunn two miles southeast of town, husking his corn as he recovers from illness. Numerous members assisted and Dunn expresses thanks through the Recpr. The death of Geo Smisor in Webster City Iowa at age sixty eight brings sorrow to Newton residents, a respected citizen and Methodist church member. He leaves a wife and five sons.
