Last Friday Fairview Lodge A F and A M of Monroe hosted a third degree ceremony with two candidates. About a hundred Masons from Fairview Newton Prairie City and others attended with a special train. The Newton team were praised for their work. The Newton lodge orchestra provided music. A banquet at the G A R hall followed, with Eastern Star ladies serving, many toasts given, and the group returning by special train Saturday morning, pleased with Fairview lodge hospitality.

Mrs Joan Rinehart of Monroe travelled through Newton Monday evening with the body of her aged father A E Leaverton to Leesburgh Ohio for interment. Leaverton died last Friday at eighty years. Rev Gibson of the Presbyterian church conducted brief services at the home Monday afternoon.
