Letter From the Klondike by Dr. Carper
Mrs. Beriah Battels received a letter from her brother Dr. P. D. Carper describing life in the Northwest gold fields near Grand Forks and Dawson City. He reports high costs for meat and fuel, looming lucrative but expensive mining prospects, multiple creek booms, and plans to relocate with instruments and supplies for winter. He notes heavy prices for liquor and meals, a few mining deeds to the Eldorado Bonanza firm, and hopes for a large clean up next summer as claims grow richer.
