Railroad fare debate prompts Iowa inquiry open letter response
W W Field of Odebolt asks state railroad commissioners how to set passenger charges fairly. W W Ainsworth replies that reducing fares would be unwise and unjust to rail interests. The Iowa report compares foreign and domestic rates, population density, and earnings, noting current Iowa per passenger mile costs and suggesting whether a fare reduction would boost traffic. The document cites averages from Iowa Kansas Illinois and Interstate Commerce Commission data to illustrate current conditions and possible effects on travel.
