Monroe’s Grand Day of Celebration Draws Thousands
Thousands gathered in Monroe last Thursday for a major community event with good order and hospitality. The day featured a park concert by the Monroe band, a noon basket dinner, speeches by J W Jamagin and others, a coon hunt, a balloon ascent by Professor A Vos, and a well attended evening concert. The town, its old timers, and visitors from Jasper celebrated with pride, praising the band and local leadership led by John R Hall and his sons.

Sheriff Gano escorts the remains of Judge C C Howe to Medicine Lodge after he became violently insane and was sent to Topeka asylum where he died.
