FPC pushes higher natural gas prices to avert shortages
Federal Power Commission member James G. Watt warned at an Interstate Oil Compact Commission meeting that natural gas price increases are needed as pipelines forecast 26 percent less gas than contracted and curtailments could leave some homes without heat next winter. He cited 3.6 trillion cubic feet in curtailments and urged price signals to spur new drilling. Watt noted four pipelines expect top priority curtailments and argued higher prices would attract investment for future supply.
