Farmer's share of food dollar falls as marketing costs rise
Kansas State University economists Mildred Walker and Joe Kropf report that marketing costs exceed production costs for most foods. The farmer's share averaged 42 cents of each dollar in 1975, down from 46 cents in 1973, with the gap driven by longer supply chains, processing, and retailing.
