State payroll shows downward trend in Kansas agencies
In Topeka, Secretary of Administration W. Keith Weltmer said a preliminary report indicates a downward payroll trend after Gov. Bennett ordered a moratorium on state hiring. January fill rates fell from 21,942 to 21,882 by April, with 1,898 positions cut in budget requests. Turnover declined about 20 percent in four months as agencies tighten needs. In Lawrence, KU reported a record first day summer enrollment of 7,016, up from 6,679 last year, with final summer totals to come in August.
