Growth of American youth stalls after century rise
National Center for Health Statistics reports that American children have leveled off in height over the past two decades. The average 18 year old boy is 5 feet 9.2 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds, while girls average 5 feet 4 1/2 inches and 123 pounds. Researchers say growth may have reached genetic limits, with puberty averaging at age 12 for girls and that the charts are updated after 15 years of data from over 20 000 children.
