Congressmen cited for free mail violations
The Commission on Congressional Mailing Standards found three congressmen improperly using free mail in its first year and a half of operation. John Hunt, William Scherle, and Earl Landgrebe, all Republicans, refunded small amounts after improper franking. Others had complaints dismissed or upheld for voter registration messages, teacher outreach, and questionnaires.
