The
Royals and Cardinals in draft focus on pitchers
Kansas City selected Clinton Hurdle an all around high school athlete from Merritt Island Florida as their first pick. St Louis chose David Johnson a pitcher from Gaylord Michigan in the opening round. The Royals and Cardinals emphasized pitching with multiple hurlers in the first rounds and added several position players to round out their top selections. Lou Gorman farm director praised the haul noting talent was down a bit and projecting Hurdle into the majors in about three years with above average power.
