Monsoon Fears Rise For India's Resettled Poor

In Khichripur India the resettled poor fear the coming monsoon after May storms flooded mud huts and left stagnant water breeding malaria. Residents report better services but few jobs and no adequate compensation as authorities promise long term improvement. In Kansas, Gov. Bennett seeks muralists to complete John Curry murals with a $40 000 budget. Applications due July 15 with five finalists to be chosen by a state committee.

Century- era letter warned of final separation from colonies

On February 20 1776 David Hardy a Parliament member sympathetic to the Americans wrote to Benjamin Franklin that the King had stopped all channels of communication between Britain and its colonies calling it a fatal final step toward total separation The World Almanac cites the remark as an early warning in the independence era.
