Kelley unveils four-city crime fighting plan

FBI Director Clarence M Kelley announced a four month program assigning two agents to Wilmington Birmingham Norfolk and DeKalb County to assist local police with citizen involvement in fighting crime. Food prices push up U.S. CPI in June

The Labor Department reports the Consumer Price Index rose eight tenths in June, driven by food and gasoline. Food prices climbed 1.5 percent with groceries up 1.9 percent, while meats and produce rose 5.8 and 2.4 percent respectively. Gasoline gained three percent to about 57 to 60 cents per gallon. Real spendable earnings fell 0.4 percent in June and 0.4 percent for the year. CPI stood at 160.6 of the 1967 base, with 12 month inflation at 9.3 percent.
