Energy Conservation Week Marks Three Cable TV Programs

Newton hosts three special programs next week as part of Energy Conservation Week. The energy committee with the Newton Public Library and schools sponsors seminars on energy management, energy efficient merchandise, and a Salina speaker at Bethel College. Public recycling and aluminum can drives run with KG&E and local firms supporting, channel 10 broadcasts.

Bethel College breaks ground for gymnasium recreation center

Bethel College announces a groundbreaking for a new gymnasium recreation center on the Bethel campus west of Memorial Hall. Ground breaking set for Friday February 25 at 10 30 a.m. and construction will begin after the 90 percent funding threshold is reached.

Ethiopia’s Military Council Leaders Killed in Shootout

The chairman and six members of Ethiopia’s ruling military council were killed in a power struggle. A midnight curfew was moved up after a Thursday shootout at the army HQ. Radio Ethiopia reported scattered gunfire but overall calm. The survivors announced the deaths amid the ongoing upheaval.
