Survived by Georgie Regier Schmidt, three sons, a daughter, four siblings, and four grandsons. Aurel K. Thornton, 80, Coffeyville, died at Coffeyville Memorial Hospital. Burial Liberty Cemetery with service at Ford Funeral Home Colonial Chapel. He is survived by a brother and two sisters.

Talks with Bituminous Coal Operators Association collapsed after contract talks recessed in Washington. The expired pact covered about 130 000 miners and the union seeks a substantial wage rise and a limited right to strike on local issues.
