East Will Soon Get More Gas

Washington reports the basic East coast gasoline ration will rise to two gallons weekly for "A" card holders, from one and a half. The timing is unclear but an announcement by War Mobilization Director Byrnes may come Friday. Authorities say OPA pushed for three gallons while PAW opposed. More East allocation and retailing of "B" and "C" rations are planned to squeeze out extra supply. Interior Secretary Ickes aims to equalize East and Mid-West rations, noting Midwest "A" cuts from four to three gallons and potential further drop to two. Brown notes a prepared order reducing Midwest ration to two may soon be issued.
