Secret Decisions Blocked from Publication by Washington County Board
The Washington County Board of Commissioners sealed its property assessment appeal decisions, with about two dozen cases heard yesterday. A Daily Mail reporter was told the information would come from the Supervisor of Assessments, and the supervisor said publication should not occur. The board has heard 21 protests in two weeks, and in about 75 percent of those cases, assessments were reduced. The board may act as a board of review on valuations as directed by the Supervisor of Assessments.

Barnes Dance To Halt Traffic In Baltimore Downtown
Baltimore traffic director Henry A Barnes will implement the Barnes Dance at the Howard and Lexington streets intersection this Friday. Traffic will halt in all directions for 20 seconds of every 30 to give pedestrians the eight of way, allowing diagonal crossing. The plan protects pedestrians from turning vehicles and has been used in other cities since its original adoption in Denver. Barnes introduced it in Baltimore two summers ago and later at outlying intersections as the downtown installation marks a first for the core. He expects to expand the system to 435 intersections citywide.
