Emmitsburg Man Recalls Civil War Horse Swap
A 7-year-old Emmitsburg resident recalls his father’s Civil War era horse swap near Creagerstown. He recalls two Union soldiers exchanging a pair of horses for two of their own, naming them General Grant and General Lee, and the family’s bonds with the animals as they endured the war. The memoir sits amid local society notes, visits, and military furloughs of residents in Frederick County.
