A Reading Company shipment of coal totaling 260 or 460 tons was sent from Philadelphia to Narvik, Norway, marking a notable early example of direct coal exports by the Reading to the European market.
A fierce blaze driven by strong wind devastated Mountain Village near Lewlatown and wiped out Mathaulet Church, the public school, a barber shop, a confectionery, several homes, and a bank loan office. Losses exceed 50 000 dollars with little insurance coverage. William McDonald of Shade reported as a survivor. Fire officials attributed the disaster to an overheated stove.
In Rochester New York on September 20 John Kloma a 44 year old Pole killed his wife Mary 34 at their home on 7 Hopeman Street with an axe after a quarrel over an assault on his stepdaughter. A daughter Kiome found the body as news emerges of the domestic tragedy.
A saw mill three miles south of Caneyville, Kentucky owned by D Boone exploded killing Eddie Boone sixteen and Frank Westfield, brother in law. Another three mill workers were seriously injured. Observers note a large sunspot reported from Rome on September 29.
