Soviet note backs East Germany pressure on West Berlin
The Soviet Union expressed full support for East Germany in pressuring West Berlin and urged the United States to stop what it called illegal use of air corridors. Washington said the note was under study and echoed Western letters denying East Germany’s right to restrict travel. The note mentions four power status but refers to Berlin as the East German capital, without repeating past threats of consequences.
