Chicago Dentist Confounds Russian Tourist Officials
Chicago dentist Berthold Schulz stunned Moscow officials by requesting permission to drive his jeep through the Soviet Union to Iran or Czechoslovakia. He traveled from Helsinki via Britain and Finland, crossing the frontier after a border scare, then drove to Leningrad and Moscow. Schulz, fluent in no Russian, followed road signs to Red Square and the American Embassy, where he finally sought directions.
