Settlement may ease Maryland gas rate hike impact

A proposed settlement between Washington Gas Light Co Frederick Gas Co the Maryland Public Service Commission staff and consumer and industrial groups would cut the planned 3.67 percent rate increase to about 2.43 percent yielding $7.4 million annually. If approved residential bills in Frederick would rise about $2.65 monthly versus $4.18 under the original request. The PSC hearing Monday noted final decision could still reject the settlement and allow a future rate change, with full implementation aimed for December 1.
