Old Time Log Houses Have Disappeared From Frederick
A retrospective on Frederick's West Church Street blocks traces the rise of Independent Hose Company No. 1 and nearby landmarks from 1816 to the early 1900s. The piece notes the 1845 land purchase, 1846 building, later hall rebuild in 1895, and changes including the Carlin House, Masonic Temple, and Y.M.C.A. Building. It contrasts past street life with modern changes like cobblestones to macadam, parking meters, and shifting fashion reflecting era transitions.
