Lactation Records Reported by State Dairy Office
More than 3 500 lactation records have been reported to the State Extension dairy office by M and D. H.L A. Dairy Here Government Association supervisors during the first six months of this year. The figure represents 26.3 percent of the cows being tested in the associations and United States, according to Senger of the dairy at the university. West Virginia had the highest percent of records reported in 294 while Delaware barely edged Maryland by reporting percent of the total number of cows in their D. H. A. The reporting of the Bon records on a 305 Gar is the first step toward proving, comparing daughter’s production to that of their dams a herd sire. Every dairyman should encourage the tester to send in the information as the cows complete their records. In discussing the proving of herd sires, Senger said, Every dairy man needs the information required to prove a sire and he needs it as quickly as he can get it. Such information will help him decide whether he should continue to use the bull, whether he should keep the animal’s daughters, whether he should raise more of the daughters, and whether the bull’s sons should be kept for future use. Dairymen were urged to have cows and calves properly ear-tagged for identification, to keep birth date records, to record freshening and dry dates complete and accurately, and to assist the supervisor obtain any other information he needs.
