Frederick County readies for the Great Frederick Fair with entry deadlines for household art pomological and farm and garden divisions set for 5 p.m. Monday. Gates open at 8 am Tuesday as Farmers Day leads into days honoring officials children and thrill shows through the week.
Four persons including three Mt St Marys College students were injured when a 1956 coupe rear ended a 1948 station wagon on US 15 about 12 13 a m three miles north of Hospital. John P Lawler 18 Havertown Pa in satisfactory condition with a compound knee fracture severe scalp laceration and other injuries. Marie Bars 25 West Kingston 2 drivers others Treated released James R Fischer 19 West Hampton NY and Donald J Guinan 19 Drexel Pa treated for lacerations. Police said Lawler's car struck Bars car as she stopped to left turn. Both cars demolished. Charges pending.
The administration's Appalachia bill sailed 45 to 13 in the Senate to fund a five year highway program of 840 million dollars and 2202 million for health, education and sewage. It faces House opposition with Southern Democrats hoped to back passage. nine states affected Virginia to Tennessee.
Dr Robert Roy Roberts has joined the medical staff at Frederick Memorial Hospital and will open offices at the Frederick Medical Center in November. He is currently practicing with Dr Melvin Lea at the Medical Center on Toll House Avenue, DPD, after serving as a lieutenant commander in the medical corps of the UCS Navy, discharged September 14.
A two block downtown Frederick area fire inspection is scheduled for October 20. Sponsored by the Frederick Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Fire Prevention Committee of the Maryland Capital Stock Insurance Association, the effort will be conducted by Frederick fire department members. Merrie Duvall, Jaycees president, says the program serves the public by reducing property destruction and personal injury risks from fires.
Fog delayed the Santa Barbara forest fire as 2000 firefighters battled a 20 mile blaze near the Santa Ynez. The fire destroyed 70 homes and many structures, caused about 3.0 million dollars in damage, and one person was killed while weather shifts limited suppression efforts.
President Johnson completed a three state tour and taxed his home acres while on the road. He spoke from a border podium in John F Kennedy Square Texarkana addressing a large after dark crowd and echoed Barry Goldwater's campaign line.

A luncheon at the Armory on the final day will feature Dr. Kenneth McFarland as speaker, praised as a leading proponent of the American System by the U S Chamber of Commerce.
Natchez Mississippi mayor John Nosser faced two bombings within hours as a time bomb exploded outside his porch home while a second blast damaged the home of Willie Washington, a Black contractor. No injuries reported. Police questioned a unnamed Black suspect. Nosser blamed white individuals for attempting to disrupt racial peace efforts.
SAN FRANCISCO AP The GOP vice presidential nominee William E Miller said the Johnson administration was using federal funds personnel and facilities in the election fight. He spoke at the Commonwealth Club in California and planned stops in New Mexico and a rest period in Colorado Springs. Miller claimed McNamara testified before the Democratic Platform Committee with statistics developed at taxpayers expense to refute Goldwater.
