Virginia allows limited oystering in Potomac tributaries
Virginia regulators opened a limited fall and winter oystering season along the seaside of the Eastern Shore and in parts of the James, Rappahannock and Corrotoman rivers. Nomini Creek and the Lower Machodoc River join the allowed areas, marking the first time since 1993 oystering has been permitted in a Potomac tributary. The rest of the lower bay grounds stay closed, despite the experimental reef near Great Wicomico River that now harbors young oysters after December stock from Tangier and Pocomoke sounds.
