Four Pistols Taken From Local Shipley's Store
Shipley's Incorporated sporting goods store was broken into by a lone thief shortly after five this morning. Four revolvers were stolen from the rear display area after the thief crawled through a plate glass door, with glass shattered across the floor. Police, including Chief Charles V. Main, investigated with assistance from other officers. the thief was seen fleeing north on Market Street. The missing guns include a Colt Detective Special, a Beretta 22, a 32 caliber revolver, and a 2 caliber pistol valued at about £130.

Navy rocket to photograph hurricane Gracie off Cape Canaveral
Hurricane Gracie neared 340 miles east of Cape Canaveral as Navy planners prepared a Nike rocket with a small camera to photograph the storm from 10 to 85 miles up. If successful, the mission would yield the first images of a total hurricane and help meteorologists study storm activity. Gracie was predicted to grow slightly with a northerly track and 175 mph winds, while coastal vessels were urged to seek safe harbor.

Two Women Identified In Fatal U.S. 40 Crash
Frederick Memorial Hospital identified two women killed in a head on collision on U S 40 west of Frederick Thursday evening. Lillian E Tillman 38 of 1637 West North Ave Baltimore and Lillian Thomas 26 of the same address were named by Oliver R Walker fiance of Tillman. Walker said Tillman ran a beauty shop from Baltimore. The white male passenger remains unidentified and was picked up by the two women returning from Hagerstown race track. Hicks Funeral Home transported Tillman to Arlington Phillips funeral home in Baltimore. The other body is held awaiting kin identification. A second brief notes stock market gain follows.
