Time Now To Plant Trees Or Shrubs
COLLEGE PARK September 24 A Maryland Extension landscape specialist says fall is best for planting or transplanting evergreens and many common trees and shrubs due to moister warmer soil. Homeowners can plant any time late September through November if weather stays mild. Key tips include transporting with soil around roots, digging a proper hole, soaking deeply, pruning top growth to balance root loss, and mulching after freezing to prevent thaws. Johnson advises duplicating the plant’s original environment.
