Proposition to Properly Light City
Mayor Fraley discusses city lighting repairs and funding limits. He notes current lanterns outlive usefulness and require costly upgrades, possibly several thousand dollars, plus plant repairs. Tobe Stone Still At Large In Assault Case
The whereabouts of Tobe Stone remain unknown to Frederick city police after his midwinter escape from the court. He failed to appear for an assault charge as witnesses and officers prepared in front of the deck, and the case was postponed. Police fear he may have fled to Frederick Junction or hopped a freight. Also noted, Charles Craver of Yellow Springs faced a game law charge but was not proven to have shot squirrels out of season, and Robert Tyler was discharged for interfering with an officer. James H. Enright, manager of the Gas and Electrical Department of the Hagerstown and Frederick Railroad, narrowly escaped serious injury when tossed from his bicycle after a collision with E B Mensel’s automobile on East Patrick Street.

Railway Getting Roadbed in Condition for Winter
The Hagerstown and Frederick Railway Company is cleaning and overhauling tracks in Hagerstown. Weeds cleared, ditches opened, new tires laid, and 15 track workers sought. Sixteen heavy motors arrived for winter cars, some cars to be painted. President Emory J. Coblentz noted probable attendance at the American Electric Railway Association convention in Atlantic City October 12 to 16. Pay-as-you-enter passenger cars may operate in Hagerstown soon. Strike among track employees is nearly ended, with most back at work. The railroad also filed an order reducing track worker wages from 15 to 12 1/2 cents per hour, aligning with industry actions.
