A study for the People's Pro Bono Action Center shows free civil representation by volunteer lawyers in Maryland rose from 1,689 cases in 1989 to 3,577 last year. Annapolis police officers escape injury on beltway
Two Annapolis officers returning from the funeral of Officer Ira Weiner heard a popping sound and found their car window blown out on the Baltimore Beltway. They suspect a rifle shot though state police questioned whether a rock or other projectile caused the damage. Officer Scott Rago and Officer James Spearman were among about 2,000 law enforcement mourners at Weiner’s funeral after he was fatally shot Saturday.
