A Second Look at the Frederick County Learning Center
In Frederick County a former Sagner building hosts the Learning Center, an 25 seat program for disruptive students. It emphasizes behavior management, uses 15 or 20 minute point checks, and aims to return youths to regular schools with improved grades and conduct. Chuck, a 15 year old, describes a path from suspensions to a structured day with breakfast, monitored tasks, and progress points. Lori, another student, notes better help but long waits to enter.
