Experts urged for Frederick County revenue study by Cannon
Frederick County needs a panel of professional financial experts to analyze the budget and uncover new revenue sources without increasing homeowner taxes. Commissioner Burton Cannon Jr urged that funds from the tobacco tax be allocated beyond education to roads and debt, while calling for tighter School Board budget control and a separation of legislative and executive powers in county government.

Sears Eligible For State Insurance Commissioner Post
Atty Gen Finan ruled that F Douglass Sears may hold the 10000 a year insurance commissioner job while drawing a pension from a Great American Insurance Co trust fund. The pension is from a fund in New York and Sears acts only through the trust, not the company, so the duties remain intact. Governor Tawes requested the opinion after a protest from lawyer Hyman Pressman, who argued pension use violates state law. The opinion says the claim is improper.
