Brisk autumn weather ushers in the Great Frederick Fair with cool nights and a chance of rain through Thursday. Tuesday brought record gate receipts of 5345.50 from 4812 general admissions 871 parking and 18 season tickets, as organizers call it the largest Tuesday ever. Highlights include 4-H displays judging harness races cake auction school band performances and a full day of fair activities with continued events slated for Wednesday.

Frederick resident helps stop clothing theft at Lee's Mens Wear
Frederick citizen Charles Stanton aided police in thwarting a $4 000 plus clothing theft at Lee's Men's Wear on South Market Street. Police recovered 4206 70 worth of garments. several thieves fled with bundles wrapped in bedsheets as an air conditioner was found removed from a side window. No New Funds Expected For Emergency Employment
Frederick County seems unlikely to receive a share of a 200 million dollar emergency employment allocation. The county previously got PEP grants last month to hire underemployed residents and six people were hired in August. Boy 3 Struck On West Patrick Street In Fatal Car Crash
A three year old boy darted into West Patrick Street and was struck by a 1969 sedan driven by Wayne Manchester of Harrisville New York. He sustained a broken arm collarbone and fractured ribs. He was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital then moved to Walter Reed Hospital in critical condition. No charges were filed.

Two Accused In Stabbing Of Youth
Two teens were charged in connection with the Sept. 11 stabbing of Gettysburg College freshman John Henry Baron after a Hood College mixer. Michael Eugene Young, 20, faces assault and battery counts while Dwight Leroy Whiten, 18, is charged with robbery with a deadly weapon. Baron was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital for a back stab wound and later at the Gettysburg College infirmary. Police also investigate a second Sept. 11 stabbing of Michael Kelly, 18, in Motter Avenue.
