City Considers Police Force Increase To National Average
Mayor Jacob R. Ramsburg announced at the Board of Aldermen that Frederick will “take under consideration” the grand jury recommendation to raise police staffing to 45 from 32. The meeting also approved the retirement of Patrolman Martin L. Kanade on grounds of physical disability after 23 years in the force. Kanade, a native of Frederick, joined in 1938 and has been praised for night duty patrols and numerous commendations. The mayor emphasized balancing city needs with resources, noted salary steps for all employees, and outlined plans to hire civilian clerks to aid the undermanned department.
