War Tax Bill In the House War Tax Bill In the House
The emergency bill to raise 105 million dollars by taxing beer and wines, amusement venues, brokers, tobacco dealers, and transport services was introduced in Congress. It imposes varied taxes including 1.50 per barrel on beer, 20 cents per gallon on sweet wines, and 12 cents on dry wines, plus duties on gasoline, brokers, and theater proprietors. The plan targets theaters, museums, circuses, bowling alleys, and other exhibitors, with exemptions for certain bonds and cooperative members. Stamp taxes on goods and customs entries apply, with higher rates for large tobacco dealers and for passage of international routes. The bill is effective immediately except stamp provisions.
