Bids draw cash for winners at Great Frederick Fair sale

Fast bidding at the 134th Great Frederick Fair beef sheep and swine sale saw 4H youths cash in on champions. Winners included Andrew Cowell with a 1 225 pound steer sold for six dollars per pound to Safeway, with other top animals bought by Giant Food CNB Bank and Horizon Concrete Construction among others. Businesses paid twenty five dollars per pound for the club, totaling about thirty thousand dollars.

Sisters win Milking Shorthorn show with one showing

Sherry Albaugh 11 of Walkersville owned the senior and grand champion Milking Shorthorn Elsie while her younger sister Katie 9 exhibited the junior champion at Montgomery County Fair. Sherry watched from a wheelchair after hip surgery yet Katie handled five show animals and Sherry’s four, earning Katie the first year sportsmanship prize as both sisters earned praise for dedication and teamwork.

Jehovah's Witnesses Win OK to Build Church Near Lewistown

Frederick County Circuit Court Judge John H Tisdale ruled the North Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses may construct a church on a three acre site near Lewistown Road, dismissing neighbor bid to block non residential use as nuisance. The group, about 146 members, purchased the land in 1997 and have preliminary county approval multiple times. Building committee chair Gerald P Callahan said a Kingdom Hall would be built quickly, within four days, with an invitation extended to the Banes.
