Knight Ridder merger pact signed by two newspaper groups
DETROIT RP An agreement merging Knight Newspapers Inc and Ridder Publications Inc was signed after board approvals in Detroit and St Paul The new group will run 35 papers with a 3.6 million circulation ranking behind only Gannett One Knight share exchanges for six tenths of Ridder stock with leaders Lee Hills Alvah H Chapman Jr and Bernard Ridder signing for their firms The note on veterans from 1972 is unrelated to the merger.
