War Interprets Stalingrad Crisis and Delay in Allies
The article discusses the German last stand at Stalingrad seen as embittered and in crisis, with Nazis failing to breach Russian defense in close street fighting. It notes heavier German casualties, Russian resistance, and Hitler’s drive to retake the city as pivotal. It also argues a western second front is delayed, with Dieppe lessons showing need for greater Allied air, sea power, and manpower before a real invasion.
