Fire burns Tivspite farmer’s house after all rooms rigged with firecrackers

Philip L. Culler, a well known farmer of Heagavilly, escaped death when a fire destroyed his isolated home. Neighbors and local firemen raced to save the structure after Culler, who lived alone since his wife and son died, set crackers in each room to signal a fire. Though some money and belongings burned, Culler and rescuers managed to save books and papers and prevent the nearby barn and outbuildings from catching alight. The blaze appeared to start near a chimney partition with no electrical wiring or recent building work involved. The property loss is estimated around 1500 dollars with additional damage to house furnishings. A Napoleon coach on display at Kemp’s store was also noted in a separate item.
