Mother and child rescued from Windsor Gardens apartment fire
A mother and her young child were burned in a Saturday morning fire at Windsor Gardens Apartments and flown to Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore with unknown burn severity. Deputies said the third floor unit suffered about 40000 in damage while Fire Rescue kept the fire contained to one apartment. Two bystanders from Fitness First on Key Parkway, Sonny Joseph and Mark Loop, rushed inside to pull the woman and child to safety after alarms were pulled and neighbors called for help. A cat was rescued and housed by animal control.

Seven candidates named for Frederick District Court judgeship
Seven lawyers were chosen from fifteen for consideration by Gov. Parris Glendening for the new Frederick County District Court judgeship. Named are Theresa Adams Janice Ambrose James Clapp John Mathias Shelley McVicker William Nicklas Jr and William Poffenbarger. The panel chair praised the group as highly qualified and noted executive order limits prevent more than seven names from being sent for review. Adams is a narcotics prosecutor with prior service as assistant state’s attorney in Frederick County and clerked for Judge Wenner. Ambrose has 17 years as a lawyer and has served as Frederick and Washington counties prosecutor and domestic relations master. Clapp has practiced civil and criminal litigation and domestic law, formerly an assistant state’s attorney. Mathias has been the county’s chief legal advisor for a decade and was an assistant attorney general.

Jennifer O Hara, 18, Frederick Community College student, and Darin Gordon, 16, of Middletown, were crowned Frederick County 4 H queen and king during the Great Frederick Fair opening. The couple, from diverse 4 H clubs, plan futures in elementary education and business while pledging to promote 4 H beyond farm settings.
