Hard work precedes fun at Fair
Buddy Miller and 79 Reithoffer Show staff plus 120 concessionaires and 30 trucks moved a traveling city from Essex Junction Vermont to Frederick Maryland for the Great Frederick Fair. Miller mapped and planned every placement, with color coded spray marks and a custom computer map. The Roe-n-Rapids ride looms 144 by 63 feet and takes two 12 hour days to assemble, while trailers and canopies were arranged to fit the limited fairgrounds space. The operation runs on three generators and substantial insurance costs, totaling about $100,000 weekly to break even.

County Democrats back Ronald S. Bird of Frederick to upset Republican Alexander Mooney. Bird, 54, a retired Army reserve command sergeant major, ex Montgomery County police officer, Frederick County teacher, and Urbana High golf coach, says he has a strong chance, citing Republican shift and dissatisfaction with Mooney.
